Betty Lou (Pool) Carr

Betty L. (Pool) Carr, died on Sunday, May 8, 2016, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.  A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, May 16, 2016, at the Newton Church of the Way.  The family will greet friends from 1-3 p.m., Sunday, May 15, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.  Memorials to the American Heart Association or the American Legion Post 111 may be left at the funeral home or the church the day of the service.

Betty L. (Pool) Carr, the daughter of Ray Arthur “John” and Edith (Wineinger) Pool, was born on September 10, 1938, in Humeston, Iowa.   She graduated from Corydon High School in 1957.  On July 27, 1957, Betty was united in marriage with Howard Carr at the Baptist Church in Corydon. They made their home in Newton and the surrounding areas.  During Howard and Betty’s 18-year marriage they were blessed with three children:  Ronda, Georgia, and Buddy.  Betty worked for over 20 years at the Vernon Company and also for over 50 years part time at Mattingly Music.  She was a member and past Regent of the Grinnell Chapter of DAR, past President and current Membership Chair of the American Legion Auxiliary, and long time member of the Newton Church of the Way.  She enjoyed music, books, stamp collecting, genealogy, and church.  Betty was a loving and devoted mom, grandma, sister, and friend.

Those left to honor Betty’s memory are her children, Ronda (Jeff) Monteleone of Newton, Georgia Carr of Newton, and Buddy Carr of Newton; 6 grandchildren, Chelsea (Jason) Holmes, Stephanie Petted, Jacob Carr, Jamie Carr, Destiny (Ervin) Dickerson, and Beau Carr; 3 great-grandchildren, Kaden, Karter, and Drake; her sisters, Mary Hayes and Donna Randolph, both of Newton; her brother-in-law, Robert Taylor of Westfield, Iowa; sister-in-law, Char Pool of Nashville, Tennessee; her companion of 40 years, Keith Keenan of Newton; and a special friend, Sarah Christian of Monroe.  She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Gwana Taylor; brother, Jerry Pool; twin brothers at birth; and former husband, Howard Carr.
