Charles’ memorial service will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, July 23rd at the funeral home.

The family will greet friends from 12:30-1:30 p.m., Saturday, July 23rd at the funeral home.           

Burial will be at the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton with military honors by the U. S. Navy Honor Guard and American Legion Post 111 in Newton.           

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Jasper County Congregate Meals or to the Donor’s Choice; memorials may be left at the funeral home. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home, please add, Attn: Anderson Family on the envelope.

Charles Randolph “Butch” Anderson, the son of Charles Jasper and Stella (Swank) Anderson was born in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania. He graduated from high school in Tunkhannock in 1938. He served his country in the U. S. Navy from July of 1942 – November of 1945 during WW II.

On August 24, 1944, Butch was united in marriage with Berna M. Bucklin in Washington D. C. They were blessed with three sons, Jim, Dennis and Scott. Before the war he worked as a mechanic, truck driver and for the telephone company.  Then he was employed as a steel worker building fuel storage tanks.  When he was drafted into the Army, the government requested that he stay and continue building the tanks.  On a day off in Philadelphia, he decided to join the Navy.  He served as a Seaman Guard in Washington DC then he departed Washington DC to board the USS Gosselin A.P.D. 126 to serve in the Pacific Theater until the end of the war. He then resumed steel work until a bad accident forced him to end that career. Charles then moved his family to Berna’s home state of Iowa.  He worked at B & O and Neppel TV as an Electronic Technician in Newton until he retired in 1984. Charles was a determined mastermind at fixing anything that was broken.  He was a Ham Radio Operator in years past as well. 

Charles died on died on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the Skiff Medical Center in Newton, he was 95. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Berna in 1998; son, Jim Anderson; a brother and two sisters.

Those left to honor Butch’s memory are his sons, Dennis (Julie) Anderson of Newton and Scott (Monica) Anderson of Pleasanton, California; six grandchildren, Nicole DeLaTorre of Tracy, California, Katie Anderson of Des Moines, Blake Anderson of Newton, Lucas, Logan and Andrea Anderson, all of Pleasanton, California.
