Connie’s funeral service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, April 1st at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.
The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, March 31st at the funeral home.
Burial will be at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton. Military Honors will be by the American Legion Post 111 and the American Legion Riders.

Connie G. Pherigo, the son of Clyde W. and Hazel V. Kelso Pherigo, was born on June 11, 1929 in Newton, Iowa. Connie served his country in the U. S. Army Air Corps from January 1947 to January 1950..
On May 8, 1949, Connie was united in marriage with Clara “Totsy” L. Leighnor in Enid, Oklahoma. They were blessed with three sons, John, Gayln and Calvin. Connie was a production worker at the Maytag Company in Newton for 38 years. He was a member of UAW Local 997 Retiree’s Union. He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited, Iowa Bow Hunters and the NRA. Connie served his country in the U. S. Army Air Corps. He loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had also enjoyed hunting, fishing and collecting Indian relics. Connie was a devoted and caring husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, uncle and friend.
Connie died on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Accura Healthcare of Newton West in Newton. He was 87.
Those left to honor Connie’s memory are his sons, John Pherigo of Colfax, Gayln (Barbara) Pherigo of Newton and Calvin (Sherryl) Pherigo of Newton; five grandchildren, Sonja R. Pherigo of Phoenix, Arizona, Callie L. (Mark) Swank of Newton, Lana R. (Adam) Nickell of Pleasant Hill, Chelsie L. Pherigo of Osceola and Dustin E. (Jen) Pherigo of Newton; five step grandchildren, Michelle (Reg) Plate of Houston, Texas, Ronald Kane of Newton, Dave (Darla) Parker of Shannon City, Lisa (Doug) Merritt of Creston and Brian Parker of Winterset; twelve great-grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren; his sister, Peggy Dodd of Newton; his two ssisters-in-law, Mary Pherigo of Newton and Rose Pherigo of Kellogg; nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Clara on March 16, 2017; daughter-in-law, Delores Pherigo; brothers, Bob Pherigo and Hugh Pherigo; and brother-in-law, Lloyd Dodd.
