So sorry Shirley. David was a great man. You gave him advantages and life that he might not have ever had. May you be at peace with him.

Shirley,
We posted this to our Group page on Facebook to honor David. There was a picture of him riding Lady.
This is David (Dave) Havens, riding Lady, his favorite horse in the world. He would come to the Gilman Saddle Club, dart out of the car, and go and give her a hug. He is the son of Shirley Havens (Shirley's Cook Shack). We are the Gilman Saddle Club, we are Family. All for one, and one for all. Dave was part of that family, and passed away last evening. We would like to give thanks to Dave, for his friendship, his honor, and that personality was contagious, his integrity and a heart that was bigger than life. For those of you who knew Dave, will understand what we are talking about, and he will be truly missed. We are all grieving right now, but let us remember that smile, that "Ye-Haw" when he saw horses, and let's not forget those hugs and his kisses on the cheek... He was so eager to please, especially on show days. He wanted to help set things up, he just wanted to help, period. He was always a joy to have around. Please, everyone raise your glasses, "To David Havens. May you rest in peace, ride those horses and be free. Amen!" We love you now, and for always.
If you have a favorite memory of Dave, please comment. Please keep Shirley and her family in your prayers right now. May God give them peace.

David was one of my favorite customers. His contagious smile always brightened my day. He once threw his arms around me giving me the biggest hug, and usually tipped his hat at me, with a mischievous look in his eye. I loved our brief interactions, I will never forget him. Shirley, I am so sorry for your loss, he is loved and will be missed by all that had the pleasure of metting him.

Sorry for your families loss. We know him from the Gilman Saddle Club shows. Always had a smile on his face and loved riding the horses.

David was a big smile and greeting to me each morning as I walked through the break area. He
made me realize each time that Love is found everywhere if you just reach for it. God bless you David and thank you for being a teacher to me.

I had the privilege of working with David and getting to know him. His excitement could brighten your day instantly! He had the ability to make you feel like you were family. He will truly be missed by his family at Progress Industries and all those who were blessed to have known such a great person! Despite the sorrow we feel for the world losing him, we find it even more difficult not to smile remembering him. Thank you David for sharing yourself with me and for teaching me that life can still be exciting! I will miss you deeply but I will never forget you!
