Gladys June (Schlarbaum) Arlt

Gladys’ memorial service will by 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 2nd at the Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton.

The family will greet friends immediately following the service with a coffee time at the funeral home.

Burial will be held at a later date at the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Donor’s Choice. Memorials may be left at the funeral home. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home, please add, Attn: Arlt Family on the envelope.

Gladys June Schlarbaum Arlt, the daughter of Robert and Pauline (Day) Schlarbaum was born on November 13, 1928 in Belle Plaine, Iowa. She was a graduate of Van Horne High School and of Des Moines School of Beauty.

She had grown up in Van Horne; lived in Des Moines, Iowa and lived most of her adult life in Newton, Iowa. Gladys was united in marriage with Ervin H. Arlt in Altoona, Iowa. She worked as a housekeeper at various places in Newton. Gladys was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Newton. She enjoyed cooking and doing crafts. Gladys was a loving and caring wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, great-great-grandma, sister, aunt and friend.

Gladys died on Saturday, December 23, 2017, at the Newton Health Care Center in Newton. She was 89. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ervin Arlt; daughter, Darla Twesme; two sisters and two brothers.

Those left to cherish Gladys’ memory are her daughter, Linda (Gerald) Binegar of Newton; her step daughter, Gloria Stewart of Illinois; four grandchildren, Melissa (Donald) Albright of Maryland, Jerry Binegar of Urbandale, Dana (Nick) Denton of Collins and Lissa (Randy) Birkenholtz of Newton; her six step grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, Camryn, Libby, Jessie, Lexie, Brianna, Bailey, Kadin, Mariah, Alex, Justice, Tapanga and Keely; two great-great-grandchildren, Sophia and Emma; many step great-grandchildren and step great-great-grandchildren and her two brothers and two sisters.
