Jerold "Jerry" Schiermeister Obituary

Jerold “Jerry” H. Schiermeister, 83, of Mingo died on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at the Kavanagh House on 56th.  A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m., Friday, April 27, 2018, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends after the service with a supper at the funeral home.  Memorials to the John Stoddard Cancer Center or the Kavanagh House may be left at the funeral home.

Jerry, the son of Arthur and Olga (Flath) Schiermeister was born on December 29, 1934 in Hazelton, North Dakota. He was a graduate of Hazelton High School. After graduation, Jerry served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953-1955. Returning from the service Jerry attended three years of college. On August 25, 1957, Jerry was united in marriage with Marlys Carlson in Driscoll, North Dakota. In 1961, they moved to Iowa and made their home in Baxter and in 1974 moved to Mingo. Jerry worked in banking and insurance his entire life, retiring in 2017.  He also was active in both the Baxter and Mingo communities.

Those left to honor Jerry’s memory are his wife Marlys Schiermeister of Mingo; children, Greg (Lisa) Schiermeister of Mitchellville, Lynette (Frank) Maher of Mingo, DeeAnn (Don) Van Dusseldorp of Colfax, and Colette (Merrill) Miller of Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren, Justin (JoLynn) Schiermeister, Ashley (Trevor) Gosselink, Jerold (Kirsten) Schiermeister, Amie (Jared) VanDerSchel, Brandon (Theresa) Maher, Jon (Ashley) Van Dusseldorp, Samantha (Curtis) Jackson, Jamie Van Dusseldorp, Scott Van Dusseldorp, Derek (Alli) Miller, and Dacia Miller; his great-grandchildren, Stella, Talia, Gabe, Brayden, Bailey, Taylor, Kaylyn, Eben, and one on the way; and his brother-in-law, Don Nicolay. He was preceded in death by his parents and a  sister, Doris Nicolay.
