Juanita M. (Blackledge) Shuey

     Funeral Services for Juanita Shuey will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 24, 2016, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. The family will greet friends from 1-2 p.m., Sunday, July 24, at the funeral home. Memorials in Juanita’s name may be left at the funeral home. If mailing, please add “Attn: Shuey Family” to the envelope.

Juanita Maxine (Blackledge) Shuey was born April 26, 1934 to Glenn and LeOra (Emmack) Blackledge. She passed away on July 20, 2016, at 6:40 a.m., living her final days at Nelson Manor in Newton.                

  Juanita was the second of eight children. She grew up in Jasper and Polk County. She graduated in 1952 from Newton High School. She worked at Vernon Manufacturing, Newton Manufacturing, and Principal, while living in Newton. When living in Enid, OK, she worked at American Standard.  Juanita was a member of Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton and had served as a deaconess. She was also a member of the Moose Lodge. Juanita enjoyed family time, her morning coffee, visits with Bert and Jim, Midtown breakfasts with friends, reading, camping, and her cats, Maggie and Dabney.

   Juanita married Cecil “Spike” Spidle on July 3, 1955, and later married Robert “Bob” Shuey on August 31, 1973. She was blessed with three children and three step-children:  Sons, Steve Spidle of Newton and Dave Spidle of Laurel; daughter, Pam Camp of Newton; step-daughter, Deb (Gary) Van Brogen of Newton; step-sons, Terry (Ruth Anne) Shuey of Grinnell and Barry Shuey (deceased); her granddaughters: Emily Spidle, Natalie Shuey, and Erica White; grandsons: Brian (Nicole) Van Brogen, Brad (Mendy) Van Brogen, and Jeremy Shuey; and several great-grandchildren.

   She was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands; step-son, Barry; 3 sisters: Sharon “Shari” Simbro, Barbara “Barb” Knox, and Marvelyn Burk; and her brother, Leslie “Les” Blackledge. Those left to honor her memory are her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as two sisters: Roberta “Bert” (Jim) Vermillion of Newton and Janice “Jan” Smith of Tama; and a brother, Leland (Beth) Blackledge of Minnesota.
