Leona "Lee" (Woody) Metz

Lee’s funeral service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, April 14th at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.

The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, April 13th at the funeral home.

Burial will be at the Sugar Grove Cemetery in rural Newton.

Memorials to the National Kidney Foundation may be left at the funeral home. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home please add, Attn: Metz Family on the envelope.

Leona “Lee” Woody Metz, the daughter of Maurice and Aletha Walker Woody was born on September 7, 1951 in Newton, Iowa. She was a graduate of Newton High School in 1969.

On April 28, 1979, Lee was united in marriage with John P. Metz in Newton. They were blessed with a daughter, Bethany. She had worked as a CNA, retiring in 2013. Lee loved having her family around, especially her grandchildren. She loved her cat. Lee was a huge Nebraska Huskers Fan. She collected decorative tins. Lee was a loving and caring wife, mom, grandma, sister, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt and friend.

Lee died on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at her home in Newton. She was 66. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Aletha Walker Woody.

Those left to cherish Lee’s memory are her husband, John of Newton; daughter, Bethany (Gary, Jr.) Pyle of Omaha, Nebraska; her three grandchildren, Alyssa Pyle, Brianna Pyle and Gary Pyle III; siblings, Lois (Glenn) Shunk of Newton, Leonard (Becky) Woody of Newton and LaVonne (Dan) Perkins of Newton; her mother-in-law, Gail Poston of Newton; brothers-in-law, Tom (Coby) Metz of Newton and Rick (Denise) Poston of Des Moines and many nieces and nephews.
