August 17, 1930 ~ November 2, 2016 (age 86) 86 Years Old

Lyn’s celebration of life memorial service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 9th at the funeral home.

The family will greet friends from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 8th at the funeral home.

A private family inurnment will be held at a later date at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to St. Francis Manor in Grinnell; the memorials may be left at the funeral home. Memorials may also be mailed to the Wallace Family Funeral Home, please add, Attn: Godbey Family on the envelope.

Marilyn J. “Lyn” McNamar Godbey, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Bell) McNamar, was born on August 17, 1930 in Des Moines. She was a graduate of Tech High School in Des Moines with the Class of 1948. She had also attended college.

Lyn was blessed with three children, Paul, Mary and David. She had worked for Northwestern Bell in Indianola and Des Moines until her retirement. She had lived in Indianola and Ankeny

Lyn was a member of the Indianola Chapter #338 O.E.S. (Order of the Eastern Star) from 1954-1991, she had served as the Mother Advisor for Rainbow Girls in Indianola, she had gone to the Calvary Baptist Church in Indianola and the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Ankeny. She loved being with her family and friends. She had been a volunteer at the National Balloon Classic in Indianola for many years working in the press office. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and reading. She also had a great love for dogs.

Those left to cherish Lyn’s memory are her children, Mary Nelson of Newton and David (Lori) Godbey of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Andrew, Sarah, Justin (Ashley) and Craig (Nichole); and her three great-grandchildren, Reeva, Irelynd and Lucas.  

Lyn died on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at the St. Francis Manor in Grinnell, she was 86. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Paul in childhood; son-in-law, Tim C. Nelson; and sister, Eileen Ahlers.
