Matthew Webb, Sr.

Matthew Webb, Sr., 69, of Newton died on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.  A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, September 27, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 11 a.m. on Tuesday.  Memorials to Gideons International may be left at the funeral home.

Matthew, the son of Charles Kermit and Betty Jane (Hamilton) Webb, was born on November 6, 1946 in Knoxville. He moved to Newton as a young child and graduated from Newton High School in 1965.  Following graduation, Matthew served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1965-1966.  Matthew was united in marriage with Kathleen Bishop on June 17, 1974 in Peoria, Illinois.  They made their home in Newton.

Those left to honor Matthew’s memory are his wife, Kathleen of Newton; children, Deborah (Jason) Brittain of Montour, Matthew Webb, Jr. of Newton, John (Laura) Webb of Wichita Falls, Texas, and David Webb of Newton; his grandchildren, Marq, Xander, Nathan, Zach, Katie, and Abigail; step-mother, Arlene Webb of Arkansas; his nephew, David Jansen; and two nieces, Lora Van Ryswyk and Melissa Sonksen.  He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles and Robert Webb; and a sister, Sabra Sonksen.
