Sandra “Sandie” Rae Pearson, 69, of Newton died on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at her home.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 7, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Memorials in the family’s name may be left at the funeral home.

Sandie, the daughter of Floyd R. and Evelyn (Rainer) Dage, was born on April 14, 1948 in Ottumwa, Iowa.  She lived in the Albia area until the age of eight when the family moved to Newton.  Sandie graduated from Newton High School in 1967.  On October 20, 1972, Sandie was united in marriage with Phil Pearson at the Nazarene Church in Newton.  Sandie worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Skiff Medical Center and at local nursing homes for 30 years, and then later at Progress Industries and Wal-Mart, retiring in 2013.  She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton.  Sandie enjoyed gardening, reading, camping, and going on walks in the Arboretum. She also liked to attend the Iowa State Fair and collect bears, frogs, and gnomes. 

Sandie is survived by her husband, Phil Pearson of Newton; sons, David (Karen Brown) Pearson of Prior Lake, Minnesota and Philip Pearson of Newton; step-son, Jeff Pearson of Coralville; step-daughter, Jennifer Pearson of Newton; two sisters, Pam (Roger) Small of Kellogg and Nancy Dage of Newton; and her nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lester and Frank Dage; grandparents, Percy and Mertle Dage and Herman and Vesta Rainer; and her great-grandmother, Hattie Holden.
