Wayne Eilert Obituary

Wayne William Eilert, 82, of Newton died on Friday, February 16, 2018, at Newton Healthcare Center.  A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, February 24, at St. John’s Cemetery in rural Newton.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to Wayne’s family may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Wayne, the son of William and Marie (Schnathorst) Eilert, was born on June 10, 1935 in rural Jasper County, Iowa.  He attended country school north of Newton.  Growing up he lived a simple life farming and milking cows.  He also enjoyed raising and selling rabbits.  After the death of his parents, Wayne lived with his sister, Arlene and her family for many years.  After moving to Kellogg he made many friends, attended auctions, yard sales, and collected pop cans.  He also liked the Iowa Hawkeyes and NASCAR.  The last few years, Wayne had resided at Newton Healthcare where he enjoyed playing cards with the Schnathorst and cruising to offices checking out the candy dishes.

Those left to celebrate Wayne’s life are his sister-in-laws, Bonnie Swalwell Eilert, Rosa Craven Eilert, Donna Scarborough Eilert (Dick) Starr; his many cousins including Florence Ebert; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roy W. Eilert, Larry Eilert, and Don Eilert; sisters, Margaret (Paul) Thompson and Arlene (Clint) Rinehart; niece, Debbie Thompson; and nephew, Gary Rinehart.
