Visitation: The family will greet friends from 6-7:30 p.m., Friday, June 19, 2009 at the funeral home.
Funeral Service: 10 a.m., Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1115 S. 8th Ave. E., in Newton.
Vigil Service: 7:30 p.m., Friday, June 19, 2009 at the funeral home.
Interment: Following the funeral service on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Those left to honor Jim's memory include his wife, Sonya of Newton; 2 sons: Earl (Danielle) Putz of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Lewis Putz of Newton; 2 grandchildren, Noah and Ethan Putz, and a granddaughter on the way; 3 sisters: Rose (Bob) Hansen of Reasnor, Mae Chambers of Davenport, and Carol (Dave) Wallace of Lacona; 3 brothers: Bernard (Darlene) Putz of Lacona, Larry (Carolyn) Putz of Newton, and Marvin (Sue) Putz of Monroe; his mother-in-law, Dorcas Davis of Chariton; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Putz of Liberty Center, Betty Putz of Des Moines, and Shirley (Jim) Morr of Chariton; brother-in-law, Terry (Kate) Davis of Strathmore, CA; 4 godchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Margaret (Dittmer) Putz; his step-mother, Theresa; and 4 brothers: Keith, Martin, Jerome, and Delbert Putz.

Jim attended parochial school at Rosemount through 8th grade and was a graduate of Southeast Warren High School. He was a laborer at Plant 1 of the Maytag Company for 30 years, retiring in 1997.

Jim served his country in U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was also a member of the National Turkey Federation and served in their Outdoors Without Limits program. Jim enjoyed playing cards and telling hunting stories; loved his family and friends, and anything to do with the outdoors.

Memorials to the Lymphoma Research Foundation may be left at the funeral home or at the church on the day of the service.
