Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
Interment: Immediately following the funeral July 11, 2009 at Newton Union Cemetery.

Verna Mae Dexter, the daughter of Peter and Bernice (Alitz) Mathiesen, was born March 9, 1931 in Mitchell, IA. She graduated from Mitchell Consolidated Schools in 1949.

Verna was united in marriage with Eldon Dexter on November 9, 1968 in Ralston, NE. She was a retired Maytag machinist. Verna enjoyed gardening, camping, baking, making candy, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Women of the Moose and a charter member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Verna died Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at Hospice of Jasper County's Monarch Wing in Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Katherine Niels; and an infant daughter, Debbie.

Those left to honor Verna's memory include her husband, Eldon of Newton; daughter, Rebecca (Wayne) Kinney of Van Meter, IA; her grandchildren: Chelsea Dexter of Van Meter, Caitlyn Kinney of Van Meter and Patrick Kinney of Owasso, OK; sisters: Gail Hughes of Littleton, CO; Ruth (Jerry) Auten of Fort Dodge, IA; and Dorothy (Willis) Kester of Fort Dodge; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church may be left at the funeral home or at the church the morning of the funeral.
