Those left to honor Vernon's memory are his 2 sons, Vernon Dale Balmer of Spokane, Washington and Mike (Kim) Balmer of Newton; 4 daughters, Vicki (Dennis) Wright of Monroe, Janice Balmer (Al Buechler) of Monroe, Debra (Mike) Wunderlich of Post Falls, Idaho, and Nancy (Jim) Wobschall of Hampton; his 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and brother, Wayne (Nora Lee) Balmer of Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Clara M.T. (Brooks) Balmer; wife, Victoria in 2006; and 2 sisters, Imogene Chedester and Bernice Coburn.

Vernon was a graduate of Kellogg High School in Kellogg in 1936. He operated his family farm until he retired.

Vernon served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the VFW Post 111 in Newton and a past board member of the Kellogg Historical Society.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Kellogg Historical Society or to Hospice of Jasper County. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.
