| Those left to honor Vernon's memory are his 2 sons, Vernon Dale Balmer of Spokane, Washington and Mike (Kim) Balmer of Newton; 4 daughters, Vicki (Dennis) Wright of Monroe, Janice Balmer (Al Buechler) of Monroe, Debra (Mike) Wunderlich of Post Falls, Idaho, and Nancy (Jim) Wobschall of Hampton; his 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and brother, Wayne (Nora Lee) Balmer of Iowa City. | |
| He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Clara M.T. (Brooks) Balmer; wife, Victoria in 2006; and 2 sisters, Imogene Chedester and Bernice Coburn. | |
| Vernon was a graduate of Kellogg High School in Kellogg in 1936. He operated his family farm until he retired. | |
| Vernon served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the VFW Post 111 in Newton and a past board member of the Kellogg Historical Society. | |
| In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Kellogg Historical Society or to Hospice of Jasper County. Memorials may be left at the funeral home. | |
