| Funeral Service: 1:30 P.M., Friday, December 11, 2009 at the funeral home. | |
| Interment: There will be a coffee time following the funeral service. After coffee time burial will be held December 11, 2009 at Wittemberg Cemetery in rural Newton. | |
| Those left to honor Verland's memory are his wife, Pat Beckham of rural Newton; 2 sons, Robert (Terry) Beckham of Baxter and David (Joyce) Beckham of rural Newton; his 4 grandchildren, Kari Ann (Darin) Scherbaum of Cedar Rapids, Jared, Jonathan, and Courtney Beckham of rural Newton; 1 great-grandchild, Maddie Scherbaum of Cedar Rapids; his half-brother, Glenn J. Woody of Newton; half-sister, Tootie Slycord of Newton; and many nieces and nephews. | |
| He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Dorothy (Granquist) Beckham; half-brother, Franklin Beckham; and 2 half-sisters, Elizabeth Robertson and Shirley Dop. | |
| Verland graduated from Newton High School in 1953 and attended Drake University. He was a Masonry Contractor owning and operating Beckham Masonry, Inc. from 1964 until he retired in 1997. | |
| Verland attended the Wittemberg Church. He was a member of the Jasper County Contractors Association, Jasper County Museum and Genealogical Society. He was also on the Jasper County Cemetery Commission and was the Sexton of the Wittemberg Cemetery. | |
