| Those left to honor Harry's memory include his wife, Thelma of Newton; 2 sons: Howard (Judy) Van Zee of Des Moines and Lloyd (Suzanne) Van Zee of La Quinta, California; 2 daughters: Judith Van Zee of Dallas, Texas and Lila (Robert) Hendricks of Virginia Beach, Virginia; 9 grandchildren: Michael Bos, Steven Bos, Lori Gaston, Doug Van Zee, Lisa Isaacson, Patricia Webster, Sherry Van Zee, Tim Hendricks, and Tina Harty; 15 great-grandchildren; brother: Marion (Alma) Van Zee of Prairie City; sister: Vilma (Roy) Buitenwerf of Prairie City; and two sisters-in-law: Leora Van Zee and Edna Van Zee. | |
| Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Govert and Bertha (Beintema) Van Zee; 5 brothers: Martin, Dick, Chester, William and Raymond Van Zee; and his sister, Catherine Boot. | |
| Harry had farmed in the Prairie City area. He owned Van's Garage which also had a wrecker service in Prairie City for several years. Harry had also worked for the Monroe Schools for 7 years as head of the bus department, bus driver and mechanic. He was part of the Prairie City Fire Department for 10 years and was involved in the Prairie City Boy Scouts. | |
| Harry had been a member of the First Reformed Church and the First United Methodist Church, both in Prairie City, and was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton. He enjoyed music, and had played the guitar, banjo, and trumpet. Harry played the trumpet on Saturday nights in the Prairie City City Band. He had also been in the Park Centre Orchestra. Harry also enjoyed rebuilding old tractors. | |
