| Interment: Following the funeral service, Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. | |
| Those left to honor Joan's memory include her daughters, Leslie (Andy) Jacobs of Melbourne, Iowa and Jeannie (Jim, Jr.) Ferguson of Newton; 5 grandchildren: Megan Schultz, Kayla Woods, Tia Mango, James Ferguson, and Amanda Sites; 2 great-grandchildren, Dakotah Schultz and Shyanne Tiger; 3 brothers: Jerry (Lois) Meador of Pascagoula, MS, Richard (Mercy) Meador of Newton and Dennis (Donna) Meador of Newton; 4 sisters: Syliva (John) Glaspie of Davenport, Norma (Jim) Chevelle of Davenport, Bert (Roger) Stevens of Newton, and Susan (Bob) Cansler of Lyman, SC; and several nieces and nephews.

| Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Donavan and Opal Voncille (McCumber) Meador; her husband, Keith on September 6, 2008; son, Kent Schultz in 1986; and sister, Eva Suckow. | |
| Joan was a graduate of Newton High School in 1965. She worked in laundry at the Newton Motor Inn for 26 years, retiring in 2007. She was a member of the Women of the Moose and the Community of Christ Church. She enjoyed reading, watching movies, helping on the farm, gardening, sewing and needlepoint.
