Visitation: The family will greet friends from 5-8 p.m., Monday, March 22, 2010 at the funeral home.
Funeral Service: 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at the funeral home.
Interment: 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in rural Newton. Military Honors by the American Legion Post 111 & VFW Post 1655.

Those left to honor Jake's memory include his wife of 56 years, Freda; two daughters, Denise Ellenwood of Kellogg, and Diane (Tom) Phillips of Norwalk, Iowa; his five grandchildren, Chris Ellenwood, Jacki Ellenwood, Sarah Phillips, Mark Phillips, and Katie Phillips; his great-grandson, Harley Peacher; brother, John (Connie) DeGreef of Newton; two brothers-in-law, Fred (Gayle) Poortinga and John Wilcox; and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacobus and Henderieka (Kingma) DeGreef; son-in-law, Terry Ellenwood; two sisters, Elizabeth and Bertha DeGreef; and three brothers, Martinis and William L. “Bill” DeGreef and Henry in infancy.

Jake served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.

Jake was a member of the American Legion Post 111 and a Lifetime member of the VFW Post 1655.

Jake was a farmer, retiring in 1990 but still kept working. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and mushroom hunting.
