| Those left to honor Vern's memory are his wife, Carolyn of Newton; 2 sons, Ked Withers (Judy Johnson) of Newton and Shawn (Alicia) Weithers of Newton; his daughter, Sandra Weithers of Newton; grandchildren; Ashley, Amy, Amber, Brittney, T.J., Sarah, Rebekah, Kaylee, Jakob, Joshua, Jonathan, Laura, Jason, Jonah, Olivia, Sophie, Brooke, and Ridge; great-grandchildren, Derek, Colby, and Bam; his mother, Irene Schlangen of Richmond, MN; brothers and sisters, Donna Zierden, Eldy Schlangen, Pat (Marlys) Schlangen, Ken (Laura) Schlangen, Rose Schlangen, Alan (Suzanne) Schlangen, Julie (Dave) Norduick, Dale (Janelle) Schlangen, and Sharon (Jim) Opatz; brother-in-law, Ben Witte; and his many nieces and nephews. | |
| He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Schlangen; son, Ronald Weithers; his sister, Bernie Witte; and brother-in-law, Don Zierden. | |
| For the last few years Vern had been a landlord, owning multiple rental properties. For many years he was a farmer and had also done some truck driving and construction work. | |
| Vern served his country in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam. He liked working with his hands and helping people out. He also enjoyed fishing and bowling and was on a bowling league in St. Cloud. | |
