| Those left to honor Howard's memory are his wife of 55 years, Bonnie of Newton; three daughters, Connie (Mick) Kearns, Lori (Gary) Yoder, and Leslie (Rick) McNew, all of Newton; six sons, Michael (Brenda) Hansen, Craig (Deb) Hansen, Bill (Cheryl) Hansen, David (Sheri) Hansen, all of Newton, Pat (Lisa) Hansen of Kansas City, Missouri, and Brad (Joleen) Hansen of Newton; his 29 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, his sister, Irene (Jack) Ferguson of Newton; his four brothers, Knute Hansen of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Alfred (Marilyn) Hansen of Kellogg, Bernie (Jane) Hansen of Meza Arizona, and Jimmy (Janice) Hansen of Montezuma; two brothers-in-law, Kenneth McAtee of Kimberly, Missouri, and Francis (Linda) Freeborn of Des Moines; sister-in-law, Doris Freeborn of Newton; and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hans Christian and Bodil Marie (Anderson) Hansen; brother, Lawrence Hansen; three sisters, Elizabeth (Charles) Baird, Gladys McAtee, and Betty Hansen; sister-in-law, Mary Hansen; parents-in-law, Lester and Vyvenne Freeborn; and brother-in-law, Sheldon Freeborn.

| Howard worked for Skinner Sales & Service, and then owned & operated Hansen Electrical Plumbing Heating & Cooling. | |
| Howard enjoyed his family, tinkering, sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes, and his beloved four legged companion, Heidi. He was an inspiration to his children and those who knew him. He believed in hard work and that anything could be fixed with some ingenuity. Howard will be missed greatly and held in our hearts forever. | |
| Howard has lived in Newton for 51 years, he grew up in Montezuma, Iowa | |
| In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Hospice of Jasper County or to DaVita Kidney Dialysis; the memorials may be left at the funeral home or at the church on the morning of the service. | |
