| Funeral Service: 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at the funeral home. | |
| Interment: Immediately following the service on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton. | |
| Those left to honor Bette's memory are her husband of 59 years, George; two sons, Wayne (Donna) Northcutt of Newton and Rick Northcutt of Newton; her six grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren, her brother, Roy Hummel of Newton; her two sisters, Peggy Pinder of Newton and Pat Withers of Colfax. She was preceded in death by her parents, Omar H. and Iva (Hipsley) Hummel; brother, Buddy in infancy; and three sisters, Edith Hale, Ida Rentsch and Bonnie Auten.

| Bette was a graduate of Newton High School. She had worked as a secretary for the Jasper County Soil and Water Conservation District until 1981. Bette had also worked many years for Newton Furniture. | |
| Bette was a member of the Our Savior Lutheran Church in Newton. | |
| Bette loved her family. She enjoyed playing cards, canning, making Chex Mix at Christmas time, and people loved her homemade salsa and pickled beets. | |
