| Those left to honor Charlie's memory are his 3 sons, Mark (Elaine) Hammer of Baxter, Keith (Rita) Hammer of Bettendorf, and Charles W. Wallway of Newton and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren,
former wife, Mary L. Hammer Rohr, the mother of Keith and Mark.

| He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse M. and Ethel B. (Trafton) Hammer; his wives, Esther Osborn in 1946 and Mary Jane Hoffman in 2003; and a daughter, Linda L. Hammer. | |
| Charlie graduated from Newton High School in 1932. He was a lifelong farmer and had also worked at Hough Local Grocery Store and the Parsons Company. | |
| He was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Russell, Iowa, Jasper County Farm Bureau, American Legion Post 111 and the DAV. Charlie served his country in the U. S. Army during WW II. He enjoyed reading Westerns, playing Pitch, Poker, and Bingo; and gardening. He was also a very good cook and made sure all county graves were decorated for Memorial Day. | |
