Visitation: Friends may start after 4 p.m. and the family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. with the Rosary will be said at 8 p.m., Friday, May 21, 2010 at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10 a.m., Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1115 S. 8th Ave. E. in Newton.
Interment: Immediately following the Funeral Mass on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Newton. Military Honors by the American Legion Post 111.

On July 7, 1962 Thomas was united in marriage with Margaret McDermott of Mingo. Survivors include his wife Margaret; daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Bill Bornhausen and granddaughter, Katarina of Minneapolis, Minnesota; son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Kelly Durbala and grandchildren, Natasha, Dominic, Benjamin and Abigail of Elburn, Illinois; and son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Tracie Durbala and grandchildren, Aaron and Emily of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by two brothers: Robert (Sue) Durbala of Newton and Marion Durbala of Cedar Falls; and three sisters: Margaret (Michael) Fisher of St. Joseph, Missouri, Patricia (Norman) Baldus of Ames and Jean (Joe) Hollinrake of Albia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Margaret (Bins) Durbala; and granddaughter, Annalisa Bornhausen.

Thomas was a graduate of Albia High School in 1950. He served in the U. S. Air Force for four years during the Korean War. Thomas retired form the Maytag Company in 1992 as a Machine Repairman with 41.9 years of service. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 111 and UAW Local 997.

In lieu of flowers the family would request you leave a memorial to your favorite charity. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or at the church on the morning of the service.
