| Those left to honor Ray's memory are his wife, Pat of Newton; two sons, Kirk Alston of Newton and Jeremy (Amber) Barber of Centerville; daughter, Shanan (Stan) Schmidt of West Point, Iowa; his five grandchildren, Gideon, Lakin, and Evan Barber and Lexi and Alyse Schmidt; and sister, Polly (Ray) Titcomb of Tama, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and June (Collins) Alston; son, Scott; and sister, Shirley Alston. | |
| Ray served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. | |
| Ray was a graduate of Tama High School in 1968 and attended Kirkwood in Cedar Rapids. | |
| Ray was a member of the 9th Battalion, and he was a Lifetime Member of the North American Fisherman Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, outdoors, traveling, and playing with his grandchildren. | |
| Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County or to the Jasper County Honor Flight for Korean & Vietnam Veterans may be left at the funeral home. | |
