Visitation: The family will greet friends from 5-8 p.m., Friday, July 16, 2010 at the funeral home.
Funeral Service: 11 a.m., Saturday, July 17, 2010 at the funeral home.
Those left to honor Ray's memory are his wife, Pat of Newton; two sons, Kirk Alston of Newton and Jeremy (Amber) Barber of Centerville; daughter, Shanan (Stan) Schmidt of West Point, Iowa; his five grandchildren, Gideon, Lakin, and Evan Barber and Lexi and Alyse Schmidt; and sister, Polly (Ray) Titcomb of Tama, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and June (Collins) Alston; son, Scott; and sister, Shirley Alston.

Ray served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

Ray was a graduate of Tama High School in 1968 and attended Kirkwood in Cedar Rapids.

Ray was a member of the 9th Battalion, and he was a Lifetime Member of the North American Fisherman Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, outdoors, traveling, and playing with his grandchildren.

Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County or to the Jasper County Honor Flight for Korean & Vietnam Veterans may be left at the funeral home.
