Virginia Lea (Stokesbary) Walker

Virginia Lea Walker, 79, of Newton died on Monday, March 18, 2024, at Accura Healthcare of Newton East. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Memorials may be left in Virginia’s name (checks made payable to Marchele Stoddard).

Virginia, the daughter of Ralph and Effie (Stoops) Stokesbary, was born on April 3, 1944 in Mason City, Iowa. She lived in Colo for many years and graduated from Colo High School. Virginia worked at Donnelly’s for many years and later for Wal-Mart for 27 years. Virginia had lived in Boone, Madrid, and Elkhart before moving to Newton in 2011. Virginia enjoyed playing Bingo and games on her tablet. She also was an avid sports fans and liked cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs. Most of all, Virginia loved to spend time with her family.

Virginia is survived by her children, Marchele (Garry) Stoddard of Newton, Jerry Joe (Margaret) Stone of Des Moines, and Crystal (Preston) White of Knoxville; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Carroll Stokesbary, Joe Stokesbary, David (Marla) Stokesbary, Doug (Paula) Stokesbary, and Donna (Richard) Kahler; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael Stone; great-grandson, Jackson Walker; and her siblings, Frances, Katherine, Patricia, Eva, Kenneth, and Allen.
