Betty Rhone Obituary

Betty’s funeral service will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, July 3rd at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.

The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, July 2nd at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. A Private Family Burial will be held at a later date at the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials for Betty are going to be used for several different things, please make checks payable to Myron Rhone and the memorials may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. If you are mailing the memorial to the funeral home please add, Attn: Rhone Family on the envelope.

Betty Jane Hopkins Rhone, the daughter of W. Otis and Lula Russell Hopkins was born on August 17, 1935 in rural Laurel, Iowa. She was a graduate of Mingo High School in Mingo, Iowa.

On July 6, 1953, Betty was united in marriage with Myron Rhone in Marshalltown, Iowa. They were blessed with five children, James, Jane, Julie, Jerry and Jody. Betty was a homemaker. She was an active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church being in the Chime Choir, Church Choir, helped with Bible School, Past UMW President, Youth Leader and helped with funeral lunches. Betty also participated in Melody Unlimited, Jasper Co. Choir, Skiff Hospital Auxiliary, RSVP Volunteer, Tops Club, Red Hat, Card Club and Square Dance Club. She was a Past PTA President, Cub Scout Den Mother and Campfire Leader. Betty enjoyed bowling.

Betty died on Friday, June 28, 2019, at her home in Newton. She was 83. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, son, James “Jim” Rhone; son-in-law, Mark Jansen; grandson, James “Jamie” Rhone; great-grandson, Nolan Rhone; three sisters, Vida Hopkins, Thelma Hopkins and Velta Davies; brother, Kenneth Hopkins.

Those left to cherish Betty’s memory are her husband, Myron of Newton; children, Jane Jansen of Cedar Falls, Julie (Gary) Hanson of Newton, Jerry Rhone of Newton and Jody (Ericka) Rhone of Newton; her eleven grandchildren, Lori Schnepf of Ankeny, Betty “Janine” (Terry) Riese of Shellsburg, Dr. Jonathan (Dr.Betsy) Jansen of Hinsdale, Illinois, Jason (Jessica) Hanson of Newton, Joey (Stacy) Rhone of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Randy (Brittany) Hanson of Newton, Jennifer (Cameron Schmitz) Rhone of Newton, Daryen Rhone of Newton, Drake Rhone of Cedar Falls, Blayden Rhone of Newton and Bryce Rhone of Newton; twelve great-grandchildren, Dominic Schnepf, Krayton Hanson, Gabby Schnepf, Tatum Hanson, Caden LaKose, Brielle Hanson, Jack Jansen, Christian Jansen, Brently Jones, Ezra Hanson, Ryan Riese and Lillian Jansen; her sister, Vela (Max) Bucklin of Ira and many nieces and nephews.
