Duane, the son of Gorman and LaDonna (Schuring) Rozendaal, was born on March 21, 1953 in Newton.  He grew up in Sully and graduated from Lynnville-Sully High School in 1971 and attended Indian Hills Community College.  Duane was united in marriage with Kathy Hunt on February 9, 1973 in Lacey, Iowa. They made their home in Sully and were blessed with two sons, Brad and Todd.  Following Kathy’s death in 1988, Duane was united in marriage with Jodi Ver Dught Brisel on July 24, 1992 in Newton.  In 2005, they moved to rural Newton.

For the last 24 years Duane had worked at Central Iowa Rural Water as a Right of Way Manager.  He also was a Real Estate Agent, Broker, and Appraiser. In the 1970's, Duane played semi-professional football for the Newton Nite Hawks.  He was a member of the Sully Jaycees, Sully City Council, Elks Lodge #1270, Des Moines Woodworkers Association, Tri-County and Des Moines Bass Clubs, Newton Board of Realtors, and the Jasper County Condemnation Board and Board of Review.  Duane liked woodworking, fishing, camping, going to the races and the Iowa State Fair, and spending time with friends and family.  Most of all, he loved his grandchildren and enjoyed going to their activities.  Duane was also an ordained minister.
