E. Lorene (Foster) Barr

Edith Lorene Barr, 88, of Newton died on Sunday, October 22, 2017, at Nelson Manor.  A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 27, at the Kellogg United Methodist Church in Kellogg.  The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, October 26, at the church in Kellogg.  Memorials to the Kellogg United Methodist Church may be left at the church during the services or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Lorene, the daughter of Ray and Edith (Chedester) Foster, was born on January 18, 1929 in Grinnell.  She graduated from Newburg High School.  Lorene was united in marriage with Floyd A. Barr on June 5, 1949 at the Kellogg United Methodist Church.  Lorene and Floyd made their home in rural Kellogg where Lorene was a homemaker.  She was a member of the Kellogg United Methodist Church, Rushville Women, and the Amboy Grange.  Lorene enjoyed playing cards and painting Santas with Pauline.  She was also a great cook; her family especially enjoyed her homemade noodles, tuna fish pie, fried chicken, and pies. 

Lorene is survived by her children, Pauline (Steve) Hesson of Newton, Colleen Lundberg of Waterloo, Carroll (Barb) Barr of Newton, Sam (Denise) Barr of Cedar Falls, and Dale (Jody) Barr of Kellogg; grandchildren, Aaron Hesson, Jennifer (Rob) Heffernen, Stephanie Lundberg, Chad Barr, Heather Bucklin, Benjamin (Nikki) Barr, Bob Long, Bethany Barr, Michael Barr, Anna Barr, Abbie Barr, Ryan Barr, and Jessica (Mike) Rother; great-grandchildren, Kalob, Carly, Jacob, Andrew, Adrianna, Grant, Brandon, Courtney, Leah, Lexi, Carson, Lehvi, Tyler, Alex, Emma, Paige, Audrey, Zella, and Ruby; her sister, Wanda Burkett of Grinnell; and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd; granddaughter, Sarah Hesson; and a brother, Gerald Foster.
