Elmer Snook Obituary

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Newton Union Cemetery.

Elmer Leroy Snook was born in Jasper County Iowa on his family farm on November 4, 1925. On June 17, 1945, he married Betty Lou Minear. He enjoyed spending his day working as a parts manager at Maples Chevrolet. After his retirement he traveled around in his motor home with his wife Betty and other family and friends. Elmer was known as a “people person”. Everyone who met him appreciated his humble charm and gentle manner. He was a man with many friends and helped a lot of people over his 94 years. He loved to travel and would come home with interesting stories of his travels that he would share with his children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren.

In 2006, after the loss of his wife, he moved to Boynton Beach, Florida to be with his family. He was fortunate to find a part-time position as a greeter at the Village of Palm Springs City Hall. He made many friends working in Florida, residents and employees alike, everyone loved Elmer! He worked there for nine years before making his second retirement at the age of 92. Elmer is pre-deceased by his parents, Earl and Nellie Snook; wife, Betty Lou (Minear) Snook; son, Steven Snook; and great-grandson Elijah Snook. Elmer is survived by his son Michael Snook and Michael’s wife Renie of Boynton Beach, Florida, grandchildren, Cory Silvestri and husband James from Lake Worth, Florida and Aaron Snook from Atlanta, Georgia; and great-grandson Enzo Silvestri.

Elmer was helped by the Palm Beach PACE Program for the last several years. The PACE Program is an All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly. In lieu of flowers, donation checks can be made out to “PACE” and left at the funeral home or mailed to Michael Snook at 4385 Palo Verde Drive Boynton Beach, FL 33436
