Eric C Hewitt

October 10, 1979 ~ October 26, 2017 (age 38) 38 Years Old

Eric Charles Hewitt, 38, of Melbourne died on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.  A celebration of life or as Eric would say “A Party” will be held at 5:00 p.m., Saturday, November 4, 2017, at the Melbourne Community Building.  Eric’s request is that the celebration be a potluck so please bring his or your favorite dish and your own drinks.  He also requested everyone to wear jeans and comfortable clothing to the party.

On October 10, 1979, Eric was born to Charles and Janet (Strickland) Hewitt in Des Moines, Iowa.  Early in Eric’s life he enjoyed going outside to play and that began his love of the outdoors which included fishing, hunting, camping, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, and many, many more outside activities.  Eric also had an artistic side to him and enjoyed working with wood.

On September 3, 2011, Eric married the love of his life, Terin Hiemstra in Baxter.  They were blessed with two boys, Drake and Wyatt.  Their life was filled with many laughs, memories, and adventures including Eric sharing his love for the outdoors with his family. Family always came first in Eric’s eyes and all he wanted is for everyone to know how much he loved them and wanted the best for them.

Eric was diagnosed in April of 2016 with Anaplastic Adenoma and showed his strength, courage and stubbornness through his entire fight along with his commitment to his family and friends.  Eric was unable to conquer this battle and became an angel on October 26, 2017.

Those left to cherish and honor Eric’s legacy are his wife, Terin; sons, Drake and Wyatt; his mother, Janet Stickland (Sam Vos); father, Charles (Jeannie) Hewitt; his sister, Jesse Hewitt (Aaron) Bielenberg; parents-in-law, Teresa and Reed Hiemstra and Robert Hiemstra; brother-in-law, Josh (Eric) Hiemstra; sister-in-law, Ashton (Aaron) Bowen; his six nephews and one niece; and his many aunts, uncles, cousins and his buddy through his battle with cancer, their dog, Sasha.  He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Pearl and Donald Hewitt and Patricia and Isaac “Pat” Strickland.
