Geraldine Rose (Cavitt) James

Geraldine “Geri” Rose (Cavitt) James, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 86 on Thursday, April 12, 2018, at Newton Healthcare Center.  A celebration of life visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m., Tuesday, April 17, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.  

Geri, the daughter of William Reed and Susie Marybelle (Martz) Cavitt, was born September 17, 1931 in Newton and grew up there. She married Delbert “Bill” LeRoy James on November 19, 1950.  They moved to Monroe, Iowa where they lived from 1953 to 2000.  After Bill’s death Geri moved back to Newton.  Geri worked at the Maytag Plant for 20 years before retiring.  She enjoyed balloon races, bowling, camping, fishing, and playing cards with friends. You could always count on Geri to put a smile on your face with her fun and silly personality.  

Those left to carry on Geri’s memory are her sons, Dale (Mic) James of Reasnor and Donnie (Tahnee) James of Nevada and seven grandchildren, Eric (Krystal) James of Kellogg, Jeannie (Michael) Pilcher of Ankeny, Matt (Jessica) James of Des Moines, Jimmy James of Newton, Jessica (Clint) Cunningham of Cedar Rapids, Justin (Jessica) James of Mingo, and Dalton Meeks, active military. She is also survived by her 11 great-grandchildren, who she enjoyed seeing and spending time with; her sister, Linda Koon; and many nieces and nephews. Geri was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill James; brother, Clyde Cavitt; and sister, Donna Kirk.

The family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and they are also asking friends and relatives to write down and share any funny stories or silly experiences you had with Geri and leave them either at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory or send them to the family.
