Joshua “Ship” W. Schippers, 40, of Newton died on Wednesday, January 1, 2020, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. A celebration of Josh’s life will begin at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, January 12, 2020, at Fore Seasons.
Memorials in Josh’s name may be left at the celebration or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
Josh, the son of Gary and Anna (Benac) Schippers, was born on May 31, 1979 in Newton. He was a lifelong resident of Newton and had worked for many years at Dodd’s Trash and Recycling. Josh was united in marriage with Camielle Stone on August 24, 2001 in Newton. He enjoyed fishing, drawing, and music. Josh loved spending time with his family, especially his daughter, Olivia, and his many friends.
Josh is survived by his wife, Camielle Schippers of Newton; daughter, Olivia Schippers of Newton; his dad, Gary Schippers of Des Moines; siblings, Sara Schippers (John) of Grinnell, Gina Castillo of Eldora, and Justin Schippers of Newton; step-brothers, Justin (Charity) Braaksma of Newton and Jeff Braaksma of Newton; his mother-in-law, Patsy (Ron) Jeffries of Palm Harbor, Florida; father-in-law, Jeff (Karen) Stone of Ingleside, Illinois; sister-in-law, Shaykiryra Farland of Newton; his brother-in-law, Jeffrey Stone (Janet) of St. Petersburg, Florida; his nieces and nephews, Megan, Rayna, Jerney, Mikhail, Vianna, Sofia, Riley, Christian, Mackenzie, Jacob, Lexi, Hannah, Bella, Lulu, and Sevanah; great-niece, Renlie; and special friends, Dave and Liz Dodd of Newton. He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Anna and Chuck Braaksma; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
