Juanita "Carol" (St. John) Hawkins

January 30, 1942 ~ September 18, 2017 (age 75) 75 Years Old

Juanita “Carol” Hawkins, left her life in this world to begin her eternal life with Jesus on Monday, September 18, 2017, at Grinnell Healthcare Center.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 2, 2017, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Carol, the daughter of William R. and Wava R. (Burns) St. John was born on January 30, 1942, in Unionville, Missouri. When Carol was born she joined her older brothers, William “Bill”, Robert “Bob”, and Neal Edward, and sister, Mareita “Rita”. The family was completed by younger brother, Ronald “Ronnie”.  Carol grew up in Unionville, Missouri and later moved to Colfax after her marriage to Ronald Dean Hundley in 1958.  Ronald and Carol were blessed with four children, Richard, Carolyn Kay, Carla Marie, and Ronald Edward. Carol later married Ronny Hawkins and they enjoyed life together until Ronny’s death in 2009. 

Carol worked for many years caring for others as a nurse’s aide.  She loved her work and even after she moved to Grinnell Healthcare Center in 2015 enjoyed helping others and insisted she worked hard every day.  Carol brought comfort and happiness to many people in her 75 years.   Carol enjoyed country music, camping, and spending time with family and friends.  She attended Grace Church in Newton.

Carol is survived by her children, Carolyn Kay (Thomas) Mooney, Carla Marie (John) Kenney, and Ronald Edward (Stacy) Hundley; grandchildren, Jill (Gino) Harris, Paul Kenney, Christopher (Mary) Kenney, Julia Kenney, Cassie Agans, Joseph Martin, and Christopher Hundley; great-grandchildren, Gino Harris, Jr., Janae Harris, Megan Callison, and Brayden Martin; her step-children, Chris (Christina) Hawkins, Tina (Jerry) Templeton, and Carisa (Rich) Miller; many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; her sister, Mareita Medlin; and two brothers, Bill (Sherry) St. John and Ronnie (Mary Jo) St. John.  She will be welcomed in heaven by her parents; husband, Ronny; her son, Richard in infancy; and brothers, Neal Edward St. John and Bob (Delana) St. John.
