Larry Gene Baerenwald

 Larry Gene Baerenwald, 70, of Newton, died Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at his home in Newton. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  Memorials to Mercy Hospice can be sent to the family or to the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton.  If mailing, please add, “Attn: Baerenwald Family” to the envelope.

Larry, the son of Lawrence Walter and Pearl (Verdoorn) Baerenwald, was born July 1, 1947, in Worthington, MN. He was a lifelong resident of Jasper County and graduated from Colfax High School in 1966. He was united in marriage with Antoinette “Toni” Shorma on April 17, 1999 in Mingo.  Larry was a phone line worker for Iowa Telecom and retired after working there for 43 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing pool and was a member of the Izaak Walton League.

Those left to honor Larry’s memory include his wife, Toni of Newton; two stepsons, Richard Kenneth (Rachel) Austin II and Joshua John Austin; 5 grandchildren; his sister, Donna (Paul) Unger; three nieces, Gina Reed, Kari (Tom) McKay and Stacy (Mike) Hesse; 1 nephew Daniel (Cindy) Berg; 4 great-nieces and 2 great-nephew.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Kathleen Berg.
