Larry, the son of Clifford and Gertie (Molendorp) Brody, was born on February 27, 1940 in Sibley.  He grew up in Sibley and graduated from Sibley High School in 1958.  Larry then went on to receive his B.A. in Education and Physical Education from Westmar College in LeMars.  On December 28, 1960, Larry was united in marriage with Judy Morford in Bristow.  After living in Peterson briefly, Larry began his teaching career in Forest City, where he stayed for four years.  Larry earned his Masters in Guidance and Counseling at Northeast Missouri State. For the next 34 years Larry worked for the Newton Community School District as a middle school Math Teacher, Guidance Counselor, Coach, and Athletic Director.  He retired in 2000.  Larry was a proud Newton Cardinal and was very active in the wrestling and track and field programs, including the organization of Cardinal Relays.  He was a member of the Lion’s Club, NCEA, Athletic Director Association, and held many church offices at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Newton.  Larry also enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to the Iowa Speedway and cheering for Archie Ergenbright in Knoxville.

Those left to honor Larry’s memory are his wife, Judy Brody of Newton, children, Steven (Donna) Brody of Clive and Cynthia Brody of Des Moines; his grandchildren, Collin and Hannah; sister-in-law, Martha Brody; and his many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marlys Breuer; and brother, Roger Brody.
