Lois Blumeyer Obituary

Lois Blumeyer, 89, of Newton died on Friday, August 2, 2019, at Park Centre. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 10, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.  Memorials to the United Presbyterian Church may be left at the funeral home.

Lois Louise (Stotts) Blumeyer, the oldest daughter of Harold and Hazel (Doran) Stotts, was born on August 20, 1929 in Beaver.  Lois had two sisters, Helen and Ruth, and two brothers, George and Harold, Jr. Lois attended the public schools in Beaver and Boone.  In 1947, she graduated from Boone High School. After graduation, Lois enrolled in the Iowa State Teacher’s College Rural School Teacher Certification program. She began teaching in a rural Boone County School in the fall of 1947.

In September of 1948, Lois was united in marriage with Russell Blumeyer. Following the wedding, they moved to their first home in Carroll.  After making moves within Iowa and a career in education, they settled in Newton in 1960. Lois worked in customer service for the Jasper County bank.  

Lois was instrumental in starting the Dollars for Scholars program in Newton and was a member and Sunday School teacher at the United Presbyterian Church. Lois loved flowers and enjoyed baking and cooking many favorite recipes for family and friends.  She especially liked making cakes, pies, and cookies for special occasions.  Lois also loved caring for her home and teaching and working with children.   

Lois is survived by her three children, Allen Blumeyer of Hondo, Texas, Janet Strensrud of Denver, Colorado, and Reggie Blumeyer of Newton; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brother, Harold Stotts, Jr. of Boone and sister, Helen Farmer of Nebraska.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell Blumeyer; brother, George Stotts and sister, Ruth Berry.
