Lorna M. (Brandt) Valentine

Lorna’s funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 23rd at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.

The family will greet friends with a lunch at the funeral home immediately following the funeral service.

Burial will be at the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton following the lunch.

Lorna M. Brandt Valentine, the daughter of Ray J. and Violetta E. Klauenberg Brandt was born on October 15, 1923 in Marshalltown, Iowa. She graduated from Bondurant High School and then completed her nurses training at the Deaconess School of Nursing in Marshalltown. Lorna moved to Newton, Iowa in 1947.

On June 23, 1947, Lorna was united in marriage with Bernard R. Valentine in Newton. They were blessed with two children, James and Claudia. Lorna was an R.N. having worked at the Skiff Medical Center in Newton for 19 years and at the Maytag Company in Newton for 17+ years. She was a member of Center Friends Church in rural Newton and she was also a 50-year member of Newton Chapter No. 100 Order of the Eastern Star where she was a Past Worthy Matron. Lorna loved being with her family and friends. She also enjoyed baking, playing cards and dominos and gardening.

Lorna died on Monday, June 18, 2018 at the Newton Health Care Center in Newton. She was 94. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bernard in 1994; and daughter, Claudia Wyatt in 2014.

Those left to cherish Lorna’s memory are her son, James M. (Marlene) Valentine of Bondurant; grandchildren, Darla (Scott) Davidson of Bondurant, Scott (Brianna) Valentine of Bondurant and JoAnna (Ethan) Huisman of Clive; her great-grandchildren, Ryan Davidson (Fiancée, Madison Conner), Trevor Davidson, Tanner Valentine, Kylie Valentine, Emma Huisman and Ellie Huisman; great-great-granddaughter, Caraline Davidson; her brother, Valjean (Arlene) Brandt of Cincinnati, Ohio; and her sister, Charlene Merritt of Flower Mound, Texas.
