Marian Daugherty Obituary

Marian Eva Daugherty, 91, of Newton died on Sunday, August 4, 2019, at her home.  A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 9, 2019, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends after the service with a coffee time at the funeral home.  Memorials to St Jude Children’s Hospital may be left at the funeral home.

Marian, the daughter of Walter and Mabel (Sallach) Reynoldson, was born of November 22, 1927 on her family’s farm in St Edward, Nebraska.  She attended school in Albion, Nebraska until high school when she moved to Madrid, Iowa with her family.  Marian graduated as an honor student from Madrid High School in 1945.  While in high school she also received many state honors for a vocal group she performed with. After high school, Marian attended Simpson College for a year and then transferred to the University of Iowa where she would receive her RN.  After graduation Marian along with a couple of her friends moved to Denver, Colorado to work at the hospital.  While living in Denver, Marian was united in marriage with Ken Daugherty on June 10, 1950. After a short time, they returned to Iowa and lived in Ames to help Marian’s father.  In 1963, they made their home in Newton.  Marian worked as an RN at the Newton Clinic for 33 years, retiring in 1994. She was recognized by many for the loving care that she gave to her patients.   Marian was a member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed her animals, reading, flower gardening, and watching birds. She was a loving and caring family matriarch.  

Marian is survived by her husband, Ken of Newton; daughter, Lynn (Steve) Schuldt of Deep River; seven grandchildren, Cara, Brendan, Ken, Teri, Jeff, Kelly, and Kate; her 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Brian and Kevin Daugherty; her brother, Ward Reynoldson; and a sister, Lila Randles.
