A Celebration of Mike’s Life will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, August 25, 2018, at the Izaak Walton League in Newton. Memorials to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League or to Mike's family to be used for 4H in Case County can be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton or can be sent directly to the family.
Mike, the son of Robert and Maxine (Biggerstaff) Olson, was born December 11, 1941. He graduated from South Dakota State University with a degree in Civil Engineering. Mike was united in marriage with Pamela Mix on July 31, 2009 in Newton, Iowa.
Mike worked as a civil engineer in Wayne County, Iowa and in Jasper County, Iowa, before retiring in 2005. Prior to that, he worked in the private sector, co-owning and operating Phoenix Construction and also S & M Construction. He had also worked for Henningson’s and had done other highway and heavy construction. Mike loved building roads and bridges, and took pride in a job well done. He enjoyed his family and friends, running heavy equipment, and hunting.
Mike is survived by his wife, Pamela Olson of Newton; son, Jon (Kate) Olson of Atlantic; his daughter; his granddaughters, Keira and Olivia Olson; his siblings: JoAnn (Eugene) Goodale, Sandra Marchese, Clayton Olson, Kathy Romano, Beth (Robert) Duerre, Sidney (Diane) Olson, and Jeffrey (Joan) Olson; his sister-in-law, Susan (Dallas) Tesmer; brother-in-law, Greg Mix; and many nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers-in-law, Michael Marchese and Russell Romano; and sister-in-law, Marlene Olson.
