Paul A. Craver, 94, of Newton died on Monday, September 24, 2018, at Newton Healthcare. No services are scheduled. Memorials to the Salvation Army may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
Paul, the son of Arno and Nellie (McCoy) Craver, was born on September 26, 1923 in Searsboro. He grew up in Searsboro and New Sharon and graduated from New Sharon High School. On April 22, 1944, Paul was united in marriage with Arlene Binegar. They made their home in Newton for most of their 74 years of marriage. Paul worked as a police officer, a sales representative for Prudential Insurance, and as a guard at the Maytag Company, retiring in 1985. After retirement he was a greeter at Wal-Mart for many years. Paul was a member of the Moose Lodge and an active volunteer at the Salvation Army. He liked working with his hands making items out of wood and leather. Paul was also an avid hunter, enjoying both deer and coon hunting. As a part of his hunting adventures he would ride mules and owned hunting dogs.
Paul is survived by his wife, Arlene Craver of Newton; daughter, Charlene Gibson of Council Bluffs; grandchildren, Paul Gibson of Nevada, Stacy (Julie) Gibson of Omaha, Nebraska, and Melissa Gibson of Hamburg; his great-grandchildren, Christopher (Shelby) Gibson, Zach (Charon) Gibson, Miranda Gibson, Jared Gibson, Katelyn Gibson, and Jacob Tristan; great-great-grandchildren, Vincent, Avery, and Odin; his siblings, Gelene Steffy of Kansas, Art (Patti) Craver of Montezuma, and Larry (Danny) Craver of Newton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
