Sandra A. (Myers) Damman

A Requiem Mass for Sandra Damman will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 27, 2017, at the funeral home. The family will greet friends from 9-11 a.m., Saturday, May 27, at the funeral home.  Memorials to the Susan G. Komen Foundation can be left at the funeral home. Sandra A. (Myers) Damman, the daughter of Paul and Arlene (Hutchinson) Myers, was born February 8, 1949 in Newton, Iowa. She graduated from Newton High School in the Class of 1967.   She had also attended Central College.  Sandy was united in marriage with Gary Damman on September 18, 1971, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Newton. The couple made their home in Altoona, where Sandy took great joy in raising her children.  Sandy was a charter member of St. Aidan’s Anglican Church in Des Moines.  She enjoyed spending time with her loved ones. This included supporting her grandchildren at events, taking them shopping, or taking care of them when they were sick. She also enjoyed traveling with Gary, where she took on the role of map navigator. This sometimes meant straying from their destination to see another site that looked more intriguing, but they always had a great time.

Sandy died on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. She was 68.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Those left to honor Sandy’s memory include her husband, Gary of Altoona; her 3 children: Bill (Lisa) Damman of Indianola, Eric (Jennifer) Damman of Otsego, MN, and Jessica (Jason) Rickers of Des Moines; and her 8 grandchildren: Olivia, Emma, Rachel, James, Spencer, Kaitlynn, Samantha, and Jacob.
