Albert Junior Swalla, the son of Donald and Nina Allen Swalla was born on March 12, 1936 in Luther, Iowa. He graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1955.

On June 17, 1955, Albert was united in marriage with Irene B. Harvey in Fort Dodge. They were blessed with five children, Cindy, Terry, Jeanine, Dean and David. Albert had worked for the ASCS office in Fort Dodge for 10 years. He then worked for 3 years at the Big Bear Store in Fort Dodge until being transferred to the Newton store in 1969. Albert was a custodian for the Newton Community Schools for 17 years, from 1977 until retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Newton Moose Lodge No. 923. Albert loved woodworking. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, playing cards, dancing, gardening, traveling and going to the casino.

Albert died on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at the MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was 84. Albert was preceded in death by his parents, son, David Swalla; granddaughter, Stephanie Anderson; and brother & sister-in-law, Bill (Teresa) Swalla.

Those left to honor Albert’s memory are his wife of 65 years, Irene; daughters, Cindy Cupples, Terry (Bob) DeBruyn and Jeanine Luetters, all of Newton; son, Dean Swalla of Rosenberg, Texas; his nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; his sister, Donna Fouts of Waukee; and his brothers, Gene (Lisetta) Swalla of Fort Dodge and Dennis (Sandy) Swalla of Newton.
