Alice Beatty Obituary

   Alice Jean Beatty, 99, of Newton, died Friday, November 28, 2025, at Park Centre in Newton. The family will greet friends from 12-1 p.m., Monday, December 8, 2025, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton, followed by a graveside service at Newton Union Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the United Presbyterian Church after the graveside service.  Memorials to the Jasper County Museum or the Jasper County Courthouse Lighting Fund can be left at the funeral home.

   Alice, the daughter of R. Spencer and Frances (Lind) Trevethan, was born May 29, 1926, in Colfax. Her family moved to Newton during her childhood, and she graduated as the valedictorian of the Newton High School Class of 1944.  Alice was united in marriage with Glen M. Beatty on January 5, 1947, in Newton.  Alice had briefly worked at an attorney’s office before becoming the secretary to the president of the Maytag Dairy Farm.  Later, she worked part-time at Rock Communications.  Alice was a member of both the Metz Church and the United Presbyterian Church.  She was a member of the Sugar Grove Grange, the Farm Bureau Ladies, and the Sully Co-Op.  She and Glen were also members of a neighborhood group known as “The Gang.”  Alice enjoyed gardening, canning, attending Bible study, and teaching Sunday School for several years at Metz Church.

  Alice is survived by her children, Steve Beatty of Newton and Susan (Sherman) Swank of Newton; her grandchildren: Chris (Gerry, Jr.) Lourens, Michael Beatty, Kelly (Chad) Dooley, Peter Swank, Spencer Swank, and Jonathan Swank; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; her nieces: Lisa Cook of Virginia, Cindy (Michael) Bear of Newton, and Linda (Harry) Moeller of Buckingham; and nephews, Gary Newman and Craig Newman, both of California, and Doug (Jane) March of Newton.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glen; sister, Frances Rogers; brother, Robert Trevethan; and her sister-in-law, Norma (Kenneth) March.
