Alice M (Dalton) Trotter

Alice Marie Trotter, 88, of Newton died on Saturday, June 24, 2023. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.  Memorials in Alice’s name (checks to Sandy Mayfield) may be left at the funeral home.

Alice, the daughter of Richard E. and Mabel G. (Birkenholz) Dalton, was born on November 12, 1934 on the family farm in rural Prairie City. She lived in rural Prairie City and attended rural schools until the 6th grade when her family moved to West Des Moines. She then attended West Des Moines Valley Schools. Alice was united in marriage with Albert Trotter on February 15, 1952 in Des Moines. After living at United States Marine Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina for two years they returned to Iowa and made their home in Newton. She worked for 35 years at Spurgeons Department Store, retiring in 1989. Alice enjoyed shopping, attending all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s events, and going on family trips. She also enjoyed wintering in Las Vegas and Florida.

Alice is survived by her children, Shirley (Jim) McDaniel of Southerland, Albert (Linda) Trotter, Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida, and Sandy (Lynn) Mayfield of Newton; grandchildren, Ryan Warden, Alisha Mayfield (Andrew Nutting), Tim Warden, Landon (Ashley) Mayfield, and Abigail Trotter; her five great-grandchildren, Kane, Dyce, and Jaiel Warden and Oliver and Banks Mayfield; and sister-in-law, Vida Trotter of Ankeny. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert Trotter; and siblings, Edward Dalton, Harold Dalton, Merritt Dalton, and Patricia Boening.
