Alvin Eugene Collins, 63, of Newton died on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Traditions Memory Care of Newton. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 2, 2024, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 12 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials to Discover Hope 517 may be left at the funeral home.
Alvin, the son of Jerry and June Anderson, was born on June 11, 1960 in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He lived in Newton most of his life and graduated from Newton High School. Following graduation, Alvin worked in housekeeping at Days Inn in Newton for many years. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and New Creation Church.
Alvin is most remembered by his family and friends for his huge sense of humor and loving and affectionate nature. He was always in good spirits and greeted everyone with a hug. Alvin was also known for always trying to help out. He loved watching wrestling, playing pool, doing crosswords, fishing, basketball, dogs, and sharing a beer with friends.
Alvin is survived by his cousins, Manual (Nikki) Vasquez of Newton, Juana (Dustin) McConnell of Newton, Neva (Heidi) Grandstaff-Fresh of Newton, and Dominic Vasquez of Newton; aunt and uncle, Ione and Manual Vasquez; and many other family members, Dominic, Mireya, Isaiah, Tyler (Stephanie), Deitrek, Tayla, Jaleea, Nilaya, Easton, Derion, Jackalynn (Eddie), Emma, Liam, Heather, Niall, Lauren, Katie, Vaida, Tielynn, Sabina, and Wesley. He is preceded in death by his parents.
