Anna Louise Carter-Allan, 95, of Newton died on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at her home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 30, at Newton Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Louise’s name (checks made payable to Lorri French) may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
Louise, the daughter of Darl and Erma (Ratliff) Steele, was born the oldest of five children on February 19, 1930, in Unionville, Missouri. She would later move to Newton, Iowa. Louise was married to Robert “Bob” Carter from 1975 until his death in 1998. On February 19, 2000, Louise was united in marriage to Steve Allan. Louise worked for 30 years as a CNA for Skiff Medical Center in Newton. After that she would lovingly provide in home daycare for 15 years. Louise was a past member of the Moose Lodge. She enjoyed putting together puzzles and flower and vegetable gardening.
Louise is survived by her children, Diana Hillygus of Grinnell, Dave (Bonnie) Harrington of Florida, Sandy (Gary) Durr of Grinnell, Lorri Carter (Terry Bennett) of Newton, Roger (Mary) Carter of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Eric (Stefanie) Carter of Newton; stepchildren, Jim (Josie) Carter of Newton and Lori J. Griffin of Newton; her 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Ruth (Ron) Kitchen of Macon, Missouri; sister-in-law, Linda Steele of Indiana; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Robert Carter and Steve Allan; stepchildren, Bobby Carter and Lisa Carter; her sister, Evelyn Strobel-Deis; and brothers, Carl Steele and Jack Steele.
