Arlene Wright, 92, of Newton died on Monday, November 6, 2023, at Newton Village. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 14, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service and again after the service with a lunch on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials to the Newton Village Activity Fund may be left at the funeral home.
Arlene, the daughter of Raymond and Juanita (Hall) Johnson, was born on January 15, 1931 in Ottumwa. As a child she lived in many locations in southern Iowa before the family made their home in Chariton. On August 16, 1950, Arlene was united in marriage with Ralph Wright in Chariton. They lived there until moving to Newton in 1956. Arlene was a homemaker, raising the couples three children. She attended the Newton Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed quilting and embroidery work. Arlene was also the best cook and known for her amazing yeast rolls. She and Ralph loved to camp and spent many years camping at the Iowa State Fair.
Arlene is survived by her son, Steven (Connie) Wright of Ira and Vonda Springer (Bryan Weldon) of Newton; grandchildren, Tim Wright of Ira, Kevin (Megan) Wright of Ira, Joe Wright of Bondurant, Amanda Necessary, and Angie Wright (Jesse Smith) of Des Moines; her nine great-grandchildren, Peyton, Dane, Landon, Denae, Mak, Konner, Alyssa, Kylie, and Gotham; and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph Wright; son, David (Joyce) Wright; a daughter in infancy, Sharri; her brothers, Warren, Don, Dale, and Charlie Johnson; and sister, Marjorie Johnson.
