Barbara, the daughter of Winton DeWayne and Betty Lou (Adams) Foster, was born on May 8, 1944 in Albia. She grew up in Monroe County and graduated from Moravia High School in 1962. In 1962, Barbara was united in marriage with Laurence Alvin Gladson and they had three children. In 1966, they moved to Newton. Barbara was employed as a housekeeper, dietary aide, and nursing assistant at area nursing homes, schools, and banks. She also really enjoyed working in the cafeteria at Maytag Plant 2. On May 8, 1984, Barbara was married to Jerry Sanders and together they blended their families. Barbara had a great sense of humor. She loved yarn work, reading romance novels, taking nature walks, and watching western movies. Most of all she loved to read her Bible and spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory are her three children, Lorie Thomasson (Dan Romanco), Barbara (John) Van Baale, and Jeffery (Dawn) Gladson; four step-children, Jerry Sanders, Jr., Art (Becky) Sanders, David (Arlene) Sanders, and Kathy (James) Fields; her siblings, Francis Kirk, Lloyd Bennett, and Richard Foster; half-siblings, Pamela Kappel, Paula King, Michael Foster, Sandra (Bernie) Parrish, Christine Austin, and Linda Lopez; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and her many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry Sanders; and two siblings, James Foster and Marsha Foster.
