Betty M. Peters, 87, of New Sharon, formerly of Newton, died Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Mahaska Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Services will be held at a later date. Memorials to Mahaska Hospice Serenity House can be sent to the family or left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton.
Betty, the daughter of Raymond and Grace (Oliver) Loupee, was born November 8, 1936, in Baxter. She grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1956. Betty was united in marriage with Richard F. “Dick” Peters on April 26, 1957, in Newton. Betty had worked at Drug Town and First Newton National Bank. She had attended St. Luke United Methodist Church in Newton. She enjoyed crocheting and most importantly, spending time with her family.
Betty is survived by her children, Rev. Craig (Lysia) Peters of Solon, Rev. Dr. Lieutenant Colonel Stephen (Susan) Peters of Fort Dodge, and Deborah (Rev. Rick) Baarda of New Sharon; 7 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Barbara Slycord of Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dick; brothers, Thomas and Galen Loupee; and 3 siblings in infancy.
